The Short Answer
An AI logo costs ₹0 to a few thousand rupees on day one. The real cost arrives when the business outgrows it and must replace everything the logo was printed on. For a small Indian business that commonly means ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh in signage, packaging and stationery, plus trademark refiling, on top of the new design.
Why Businesses Replace AI Logos
Most AI logos are replaced for one of four reasons: a trademark objection or conflict, technical files that fail at print sizes, a brand that looks like competitors, or the business moving upmarket. None of these shows up at launch. They appear once the logo is on physical materials and the business has something to lose.
- Trademark trouble. The mark resembles an existing registration or is too generic to register; see why AI logos look alike.
- File problems. Low-resolution raster files blur on hoardings and fail at the embroiderer; see AI logo to vector files.
- Sameness. Customers confuse the brand with others.
- Moving upmarket. A logo that looked fine for a startup looks cheap next to the clients or retail partners the business now wants.
What a Rebrand Actually Costs To Roll Out
Design is usually the smaller part of a rebrand. Rollout costs come from every physical and digital place the old logo appears. The table below shows typical 2026 market ranges for a small Indian business with one or two locations or a small product range. They are estimates for planning, not quotes.
| Item | Typical cost range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shop or office signage | ₹25,000 to ₹3,00,000 per location | ACP and LED letter signs vary widely by size and city |
| Packaging artwork and printing plates | ₹20,000 to ₹2,00,000 per range | Each SKU needs new artwork; printing cylinders or plates are remade |
| Written-off packaging stock | Varies | Often the largest hidden cost for product brands |
| Vehicle branding | ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 per vehicle | Vinyl wraps and graphics |
| Uniforms and merchandise | ₹300 to ₹1,500 per item | Embroidery needs vector files |
| Stationery and print collateral | ₹10,000 to ₹75,000 | Cards, letterheads, brochures, standees |
| Website, social and marketplace assets | ₹15,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Banners, listings, templates, favicon, app icons |
| Trademark refiling | ₹4,500 or ₹9,000 per class (government fee) | Plus professional fees; the old application may be wasted |
Add the cost of the new identity itself. Our logo and brand identity cost guide for India breaks that down by tier.
The Costs That Do Not Appear on an Invoice
Some of the largest rebrand costs are never billed. Customers who recognised your old look may not recognise the new one; reviews, ratings and search visibility tied to the old brand can be diluted; and staff time goes into managing the change rather than running the business. These costs are real even if they are hard to measure.
- Lost recognition. Repeat customers search for what they remember.
- Marketplace disruption. Changing brand names on Amazon or Flipkart listings can require re-verification.
- Distributor confusion. Retailers may hold old stock or reject unfamiliar packaging.
- Management time. A rebrand takes weeks of decisions from the people running the business.
A Simple Way To Compare
Compare the total cost over three years, not the cost on day one. A ₹500 AI logo that must be replaced in year two, along with ₹3 lakh of rollout, costs more than a ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 identity designed properly once. The calculation flips only if you are unlikely to print anything or grow within that period.
Ask three questions before deciding:
- Will the logo go on signage, packaging, vehicles or uniforms in the next two years?
- Will you apply for a trademark or sell on marketplaces under this name?
- Will you spend money on advertising that builds recognition of this logo?
If the answer to any of them is yes, the logo is an investment, not an expense.
When an AI Logo Is Still the Right Choice
An AI logo is reasonable when the business is still an experiment: you are testing demand, running an event, building a prototype or validating a name. Use it knowingly, avoid printing it on anything expensive, and plan to replace it before you invest in physical materials, trademarks or advertising.
