The Short Answer

In India in 2026, a logo alone costs ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 from an independent designer, and ₹40,000 to ₹1,20,000 from a studio. A complete brand identity system — logo, typography, colour, applications, and guidelines — costs ₹60,000 to ₹5,00,000. A full rebrand for an established business with multiple touchpoints runs ₹2,50,000 upward.

The wide range is not a market inefficiency. It reflects genuinely different products, and the most useful thing you can do before comparing quotes is decide which product you actually need.

Logo Versus Identity: The Distinction That Explains the Price

A logo is one asset. An identity is the system that makes every asset look like it belongs to the same organisation.

Most businesses that feel their branding is not working have a logo and no system. The symptom is described in detail in our piece on why your brand looks different everywhere.

What Drives the Number Up

  • Research depth. Competitor audits, customer interviews, and category analysis are real hours before any design begins, and they are what prevents an identity that looks like three competitors.
  • Number of applications. A logo on a website is one context. A logo on packaging, signage, uniforms, vehicles, and a fifty-SKU product range is fifty design problems.
  • Sector complexity. Regulated industries, multi-language requirements, and sub-brand architecture all add scope.
  • Documentation. A comprehensive guidelines document is a substantial design and writing project on its own — and it is the deliverable that determines whether the identity survives contact with your team.
  • Seniority. Who does the thinking. This is the honest difference between a ₹40,000 and a ₹4,00,000 engagement more than any deliverable count.

The Deliverables Checklist

Whatever you pay, confirm in writing that you receive:

  1. Editable vector source files, not only exports. Without these you cannot adapt the logo and you are dependent on the designer permanently.
  2. Full export set — SVG, PNG with transparency at multiple sizes, PDF, and a favicon-ready version.
  3. Logo variants — primary, horizontal, stacked, icon-only, single-colour, and reversed for dark backgrounds.
  4. Usage rules — minimum size, clear space, what not to do, and how it behaves over photography.
  5. Colour specifications in HEX, RGB, CMYK, and Pantone. Print and screen values are not interchangeable, and this is where brand colour drift begins.
  6. Typography — font names, licence status, weights in use, and a defined type scale.
  7. Written IP assignment transferring ownership to you on final payment.
  8. Font licences confirmed for your actual usage — web, print, and app licences are separate purchases, and inherited unlicensed fonts are a genuine legal exposure.

The eighth item catches businesses out regularly. A designer using a font licensed for their own desktop does not transfer that licence to you.

Trademark Is a Separate Cost

Owning a design and having the exclusive right to use it commercially are different things. In India, trademark registration costs ₹4,500 per class for individuals and small entities and ₹9,000 per class otherwise, plus professional fees of ₹5,000 to ₹25,000. Registration takes twelve to twenty-four months, though you can use the mark while the application is pending.

Run a trademark search before finalising a name or mark, not after. The cost of discovering a conflict after printing packaging is considerable. Our guide to checking name availability in India covers the process.

What To Buy At Your Budget

BudgetSensible scope
Under ₹25,000A clean custom logo with full file set, plus a defined colour palette and two typefaces. Skip guidelines; write a one-page rules sheet yourself.
₹25,000 – ₹75,000Logo system with variants, typographic scale, colour system, social templates, and a short guidelines document.
₹75,000 – ₹2,50,000Full identity with positioning input, applications across your real touchpoints, motion identity, and proper guidelines.
Above ₹2,50,000Comprehensive identity with research, naming if needed, packaging, photography direction, and rollout support.

A useful rule: buy the system before buying volume. An identity with clear rules lets you or a junior designer produce hundreds of on-brand assets cheaply. A beautiful logo with no system means every new asset is a fresh design decision, and the cost accumulates invisibly for years.

Warning Signs

  • Unlimited concepts. Volume is a substitute for thinking. Three considered directions beat fifty variations.
  • No questions about your business. A designer who starts sketching before understanding your customers is decorating, not designing.
  • Only JPEG or PNG delivered. You cannot use these properly at scale.
  • Stock-looking marks. Reverse image search any concept before approving it. Template resale is common at low price points and it is your legal exposure, not the designer's.
  • No mention of IP transfer. Raise it yourself if the contract does not.
  • A portfolio of identical work. If every client looks the same, you will too.

When A Rebrand Is Worth It

Rebranding costs more than a first identity because the design work is only part of it — rollout across existing materials, inventory, signage, and digital properties frequently exceeds the design fee. Budget for the rollout separately, and expect it to be the larger number.

It is justified when your positioning has genuinely changed, when the current identity actively misrepresents what you do, when you have outgrown a name or mark, or when a merger requires consolidation. It is not justified because leadership is bored of the logo, which is a common and expensive motivation. Our rebranding checklist works through the distinction.

The Underlying Question

What a brand identity is worth depends on how much work it has to do. A local service business known by reputation needs a competent mark and consistency. A D2C brand competing on a shelf against well-funded rivals, where the packaging is the primary sales asset, is in a different situation entirely — there, identity is not a cost centre, it is the product's first argument.

Decide which you are before comparing quotes, and the price question resolves itself.
